The stuff in the middle

I said Sunday that most people (including myself and I was a “worship leader” for years) recognize the first, and sometimes the last part of Christmas Carols.  The “stuff in the middle” is completely unknown…  Check out this second verse of a very well known Christmas Standard-

“Why lies He in such mean estate,

Where ox and ass are feeding?

Good Christians, fear, for sinners here

The silent Word is pleading.

Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,

the cross be borne for me, for you.

Besides making every fourth grader laugh because it uses the word “ass” and using some seriously “ye olde” english, the whole “pierced with nails and spears” seems a little heavy for a Christmas Tune.  But it’s part of his-story…and part of the Christmas Story.

In the upcoming weeks of the “regift” series we’ll be investigating the “stuff in the middle” of the birth of Jesus. (Withoute thee olde english).

Anyone know what song the verse above “belongs to”?

  1. You guys are good! Anonymous was first…and yeah…you were gonna win a HUGE prize, but since you were anonymous we don’t know where to send it :-)

  2. Sure Keith…excuses, excuses. We’re not the kind of church that gives out “participation trophys”. Everyone is NOT a winner at actionchurch.com So sorry, I guess we will not be able to give away that 2010 Yukon Denali. :-)
