Do you see what I see…

I said yesterday that it was starting to “feel like” actionchurch at Frank Theaters (Queensgate York).   Here’s a few things that made me say that…

I saw folks gathered before the service in the lobby area…talking…eating…getting to know each other.  Community is why we provide food on Sunday morning…I’m glad that is beginning to happen in the new venue. If you are missing the time before the service starts on Sunday morning…you may just be missing the best part of actionchurch.

Yesterday I saw people serving.  I’m seeing folks that have been part of actionchurch for some time, serving in new ways.   I’m seeing people who are brand new to actionchurch jump in and serve in really significant ways.  I have NO doubt that God is using this move to allow more people to take part in the mission of the church.

I saw people giving yesterday.  You simply can’t be a church that Loves God, Loves People, and Takes action: without the funds, equipment, and gifts needed to do that.  Yesterday the people of actionchurch brought cookies for a nursing home, gift cards for families in need, and donated money to continue operating the church.  On that note, on Sunday we heard of yet another family with 5 small children that seriously needs our help this Christmas.  We are going to be helping them also, in spite of the fact that December is one of the most difficult times financially for our church.  (To give our Great volunteer crew time off…we cancel the final Sunday of the year…unfortunately, our expenses remain the same, even though we have one less week of giving.)  I challenge everyone to bring even more giftcards for this very needy family,  while not forgetting that we need your financial backing to meet all our regular bills as a church this month.

Finally,  I think I saw a little flash of what the actionchurch can be in the future.  The music was great, the seats were plush, the graphics slick…but it still reminded me of the little group of people that met for the first time at Fat Daddys nightclub.  Everyone is welcome.  Everyone is different. Everyone is accepted.  Everyone is a valuable part of the mission.  That may be the most important thing that I “saw” yesterday.
