Day 7 – YOUR will be done

On Sunday, Michele explained how important it is to stop praying that God does OUR will. We can waste countless hours thinking and worrying through different scenarios in our heads. We’re determined that we can find and achieve OUR perfect outcome. We mistakenly think that it wouldn’t just make us happy, but everyone around us as well. When we take it upon ourselves to ‘fix’ things the way we want them we make more of a mess than there was already! Giving up control of our lives, and the lives of the people around us, to God is a VERY scary thing to do. If we could just make decisions for everyone else around us wouldn’t they all just be happier!? Nope. Time and time again God has proven to me that His will is not only good, it’s the best. He has been faithful in bringing me through the ‘storms of life’, and even manages to do the same for everyone else in my life. He is much more successful at it than I am too! Today you can pray for the strength to stop trying to force God to do your will. Pray that you can start trusting God’s plan by saying a simple “YOUR will be done”. Pray that you learn to value God’s peace and comfort rather than trying to control all situations that come along.

Psalm 46

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
