Planting = Risk and Sacrifice.

All month long at actionchurch we’ve been talking about the powerful metaphor Jesus used for his Death, Resurrection and coming Kingdom-  wheat

24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.  John 12:24

It’s exciting and inspiring to think about how one single grain of wheat can turn into a “plentiful harvest”.  Harvest time is simply the best.  It’s a time of seeing exponential results for all your work.  It’s a time of celebrating, and (my favorite) feasting.

Harvest NEVER comes without planting.  Planting NEVER COMES without RISK.  Planting season on a farm is a not-so-great time.  Planting is lots of hard work, with no immediate visible result.  Planting means risking large amounts of money, time, and resources with NO GUARANTEE  that anything will be harvested. Planting means long hours and short finances.  Planting is about risk, sacrifice, and finally, FAITH that a harvest will come.

Here’s a few words of encouragement for all of us who plant.  For all of us who risk and sacrifice for a future harvest.  For all of us who struggle for an education, a family, a dream, a business, and most important-the invisible KINGDOM of God.

4 Restore our fortunes, Lord,
      as streams renew the desert.
 5 Those who plant in tears
      will harvest with shouts of joy.
 6 They weep as they go to plant their seed,
      but they sing as they return with the harvest.

Psalm 126: 4-6
