Sunday Recap: the one with the power tools.

This Sunday at actionchurch we talked about Focus.  The reason that many of us fail to finish what we start in life and endure until we “reap a harvest of blessing” is that we fail to concentrate on ONE THING.  The reason that a simple fisherman became “Saint Peter”, even after many failures, painful experiences, and bad choices, was because of his choice to focus on Jesus above all else.

66 At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. 67 Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?” 68 Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. John 6:66-68

I enjoyed demonstrating the “Fooddominator2000” to the crowd.  Yes it slices, dices, mixes, and even mitre cuts.  Cutting a carrot with a power saw in church is definitely something that not a lot of pastors get to experience….and yeah…I almost turned my microphone into a “cordless” model with the saw.  I do think that it is a pretty good metephor for our lives when we try to make up for our lack of patience and endurance by just tacking on more “stuff” instead of seeing anything through to the end.  When we live like that none of it works very well… This Sunday we switched everything around.  Josiah was on keyboards with “Mookie” to make up the power-pop-acoustic-electric-funk-duo “Jamookie”.  Thanks guys for laying some crowder and counting crows on us.  We found out that Josiah can actually rock a keyboard not attached to a mac book, Mookie can definitely sing,  and together they guys gave us a really nice musical change of pace.

Because Josiah was playing Garrett kicked off the service and welcomed everyone for the first time ever, and Tyler ran tech.  (except for the Fooddominator2000…which I totally ran myself )   I am so thankful for all the great young men that we are blessed with at actionchurch.  I totally appreciate all you ladies and “old dudes” like me…but it is really great to be part of a church where young men are such a big part of the mix.   I better stop before I start tearing up and singing “I Believe that children are the future” like Whitney.  :-)

Yes it was “argyle sweater day”…if you didn’t get the memo.  Here we are “looking like a fool with our pants on the ground”.

The baby area was up and running again this week!  Thanks Michele, Rachel, and Mercedes for making that totally happen.   NOW we need some babies to fill it.  So many times we have had absolutely NO good place for small children…now I am looking forward to seeing it get filled with little ones.  Tell your friends.

I am REALLY looking forward to next week.   It’s even better than chopping vegetables with power tools.
