Picking a major…

decision

It’s “back to school” time.   “Kids” everywhere are having to make serious, life changing decisions.  Time to pick a major.  Time to pick a sport.  Time to chose (to quote Ferris Bueller’s Day off) if you are going to be a “sporto, geek, motorhead, slut, blood, waistoid, dweebie, dickhead,or a truly  righteous dude”.   You can’t be everything.  You make the call or you may end up being “nothing”.  You have to chose!

As the very wise Trix bunny once said “Choices aren’t just for kids”.  (Okay, he didn’t actually say that but I try to quote a cereal mascot at least once a month on the blog…you never know…they might send me some free samples.)   We all have to make major, life changing, “course corrections” from time to time.  Industries change, relationships end, unforeseen- “unthinkable” events happen.  However, If  we are going to end up ANYWHERE in life we have to keep moving in the same direction!  You can’t change careers every six months and expect to ever be a success in any of them.  You can’t change partners every six months and expect to ever experience a “real” relationship.  You can’t even chose a new sport or hobby every six months and hope to master any of them.

I’m very tempted to quote Kenny Rogers in the gambler (“you’ve gotta know when to hold em'”) but since I’ve already quoted a cereal selling bunny and an 80’s teen film I think I’m over my “cheesy quotes quota”.  But success in life is about choosing a “direction”.  Something you believe in.  Something you are willing to struggle for even when the outcome looks dismal.  A direction, a “true north” that you feel compelled to move toward even when all the “signs” are pointing in the opposite direction.

Question of the Day:  Have you chosen your major?

13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.  Philippians 3:14-14
