Love is…

Following rules is hard.

You have to know the rule.
You have to understand the rule.
You have to remember the rule.
And sometimes, the hardest part is wanting to follow the rule.

Even the rules that are designed to protect you; to keep you safe from harm – aren’t easy to follow.

Honestly – the “THOU SHALT NOTS……” used to drive me crazy. Thou shalt not commit murder. Duh! Thou shalt not bear false witness. Okay. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain. Oooops. Thou shalt not covet. Well geez! Ten rules to know, understand, remember and obey.

Following rules is hard.

Even the “wedding verse” in Corinthians kind of became one of those posters with a big X’d out circle in my mind. Love IS: patient and kind. Got it. Love IS NOT: rude or irritable. Tricky. Love believes and hopes. Love doesn’t insist on it’s own way. Big red X that one out! Do this. Don’t do that.

I got lost trying to follow rules. I did.

But I have to tell you, when I FINALLY wrapped my head around what Jesus wanted from me when I became his disciple – it was like a million watt light bulb went off in my head. Keep It Simple Stupid!

Romans 13: 9-10 “The commandments, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet and whatever other command there may be are summed up in this one command: Love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore LOVE is the fulfillment of the law.”

Love.
Plain and simple.
Love does no harm.
Love is the fulfillment of the law.
