WHY? Why do Relay for Life leaders at actionchurch invest countless hours – MONTHS prior to, DURING and even AFTER the event, with no thought for recognition or reward? Why are they the people that are on the field FIRST and are the LAST sweaty, dirt encrusted people to leave? Why do the leaders to everything they can possibly imagine to make each year’s event better than the last? Here’s why:

“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26-28

WHY? Why would so many people from one church come together, namelessly, to spend countless hours serving others with no thought for recognition or reward? Why would those people give their time, money, and resources to people they don’t even know? Here’s why:

“That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:29-30

It is not because we hope for fame or glory. It is not because we want our name in lights (or even the newspaper). It is not so we get rewarded here on earth. It is not so we get lots of thank you cards in the mail…..

We use our talents and resources as a sacrament in humble service, namelessly, serving so that CHRIST becomes greater. GREATER in our lives AND GREATER in the lives of others who may not yet know him.
