One word. So many different nuances. Definitely not a word to be taken lightly.
Imagine my teenage son using the word…..with a teenage attitude, a little space between the syllables and a smart aleck roll of the eyes. One meaning – right?
Then imagine the same word….used in defeat – at the end of a sentence – maybe with a sigh or a shrug of the shoulders. Different meaning.
Now – use “WHATEVER” – in an actionchurch way and it takes on a whole new realm of possibilities!
I love when actionchurch people use the word WHATEVER. It was everywhere when actioncorps headed to New Jersey for Hurricane Sandy clean-up. The crew ALL specifically told me that they would do WHATEVER it took to get the job done. And they proved it. Their actions spoke louder than their words. There was no job that was too dirty, too hard or too insignificant. They did WHATEVER God gave them to do during those three days that we were in New Jersey.
And each year when we get ready for Relay for Life season – actionchurch people use the same word when they speak to me about service opportunities. “I will do WHATEVER you need – just let me know” Wow!!! What more could you ask for in a volunteer? People who are willing to do WHATEVER it takes to get God’s work done!
Even before Don’s “Whatever” sermon….”Work willingly at WHATEVER you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people”. (Colossians 3:23) ….I had people giving me the WHATEVER sign. Literally – someone came out of the theater with their hands in a big “W” shape – indicating that they were available in any capacity that we needed. WHATEVER. Someone else came up to me just this week and said “we really want to help – you can use WHATEVER tools, trailers, equipment I have for Relay”
And that is what it is all about….. WHATEVER it takes to make sure that actionchurch’s involvement in Relay for Life is a symbol of God’s glory.
To show that God is working in us and through us as we go about our daily lives – do WHATEVER work God places before you that day.
To show that God is working in us and through us as we serve our community – do WHATEVER work God places before you that day.
To show God is working in us and through us as we Love Him, Love people and take action – do WHATEVER work God places before you THAT DAY.
“Work willingly at WHATEVER you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people” …Colossians 3:23
