Operation Sandythanksgiving is in full swing!

Those of you who want to accompany a team from actionchurch to serve in the relief efforts being organized for the areas hardest hit by Super Storm Sandy please check out sandythanksgiving.com.

This website gives some great information about the organization that we will be partnering with for our next mission – Liquid Church.  It also gives a link for volunteer sign-ups.  Please note any special talent/skills you may have on the application and MAKE SURE you note that you are part of the actionchurch team so that we all get deployed/assigned together.  You will also need to print the waiver form and bring it with you when we depart.  In addition – you need to email info@actionchurch.com so that we can get a count of volunteers and can arrange transportation.

Our plan at this point is to leave sometime late on Thursday (Thanksgiving ) afternoon/evening and arrive in New Jersey late Thursday night.  Our tentative assignment at this point would be in the area of Long Beach Island, NJ.  We will carpool – so if you have a vehicle and you are willing to drive, please let us know.  While it might cut our feasting short, this plan of departure will allow us to check in and get a full night’s sleep before work detail starts at 8:00 a.m. on Friday.

There is a slight possibility that we may have a second wave team willing to leave VERY early Friday morning.  Please let me know if this might fit your schedule better and we will try to organize this as well.  This team would have to arrive in time to check in, get set up and report for work PRIOR to 8:00 a.m.  It is about a 3 ½ hour drive.

We will be assigned a work detail as a team.  Please plan on dirty, sweaty physical labor (at the worst) and/or serving meals, running supplies, that sort of thing (at best).  We will be in New Jersey until after the work day is complete on Saturday, returning to York late Saturday night.

Accommodations will be rough.  Plan to sleep on the floor and not shower.  Please brush your teeth – just sayin’!  Liquid Church will provide a sleeping space and three meals a day.  They seem like a well- organized, awesome church to work with!  It is going to be a very meaningful experience and I hope you will prayerfully consider the journey.
