“I also read the Bible for the first time. It was deep! I liked the parts where some character was once this, but he ended up being that. Like he’d be dissing Jesus, and then he ends up being a saint. That was cool.” -Lil Wayne (Rolling Stone)
I just found this quote (from the latest Rolling Stone) from rapper Lil Wayne about books he read while in prison. (If you are wondering, he also recommends “Scar Tissue” by Red Hot Chilli Pepper front man Anthony Kiedis.) Even though he claimed to have been reading the Bible for the first time, I think he captured the main theme of the Bible perfectly.
I was____________, but now I’m_____________.
That’s the point. That’s what the Bible is all about. It’s why Jesus came to earth, and why it’s STILL worthwhile to read and apply the ancient words of scripture. It’s why we have been spending the first month of the year reading the ancient words of Proverbs each day.
Check out today’s reading in “the Verbs” Proverbs Chapter 20. Put the words into action…let the transformation begin.
