Without Faith…

6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

Hebrews 11:6  (NLT)

Someone quoted the above verse to me and asked a question that I cannot forget.  “If it is impossible to please God without faith,  What if it is also IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO PLEASE GOD when you act in Faith?”   What if even we mess up, even when we get it wrong, God is more pleased when we act in faith…because we believe he exists and want to please him…than to sit idly by and “not get it wrong”.

To this day I’m not sure that question “works” 100% theologically…or logically.  I’m just grateful for that simple question that still needles me, motivates me when I am tempted to sit back and “play it safe” when I am not 100% sure of what path to take.

The first time I heard those words was when we were still months away from launching actionchurch.  We didn’t have any money or equipment.  Only a handful of people thought it was possible or even a good idea to start a church in a nightclub…and ummh…the nightclub owners thought it was a terrible idea as well.  :-)   I wondered if we were doing it “wrong”.  (Looking back, we probably were.)  I wondered if the wiser thing, due to all the difficulty and set-backs we’d encountered, would be to call the whole thing off.  Then someone asked me that question…

I decided to take action…even though I was not SURE that it was the right thing to do.  I’m glad I did.  You will be too.

Love God,  Love people, Take action.   In a “tie” about whether to act or sit idly by- take action.   Who knows, with faith perhaps it really is impossible not to please God.

I MISS THE SMELL OF STAIL CIGS AND BEER, THE STICKY FLOORS AND THE ELEVATOR OF DEATH. I SWEAR I WAITED IN FEAR OF EITHER BEING STUCK IN THAT THING OR IT RELEASING AND ME FALLING TO ME DEATH. GOOD TIMES<3 IT WILL B FOREVER MISSED

  2. Ha Ha I forgot the “Elevator of death”, but I will NEVER forget how Fat Daddies smells at 8am on a Sunday morning! And if you’re wondering…it smells like “church” to me.
