For the Love of …

Pete.  No one is exactly sure who “Pete” is…but people still use the expression.  (Of course, most people also don’t know who “Ray-j” is…and for some reason “for the love of Ray-j” seems to be all that is on VH-1 …but I digress.)

Scholars say that the phrase “For the love of Pete” is a polite and less blasphemous version of “For the love of God”. Pete is supposedly a reference to Saint Peter.  Sounds plausible to me…

I’m not sure that it matters who we SAY we love.  I am SURE, however that it matters who we ACTUALLY love…who motivates us to do what we do in life.

If everything we do is For the love of MONEY…it shows.

If everything we do is For the love of FAME/ATTENTION…it shows.

If everything we do is For the love of PLEASURE/SELF…it shows.

If everything we do is For the love of FAMILY/FRIENDS…it shows

And if everything we do is For the love of GOD…and OTHERS…it can change the world.

Why do you “do what you do”?   For the love of…?

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

 Mathew 22:37-40
