Hit by an aircraft carrier…

helicopter-aircraft-carrier

I was reading this week about the an accident that happened as a helicopter was attempting to take off from an aircraft carrier.  (First of all…I know…I’m a freak for reading stuff  like that, but hang with me.)  It seems that the pilot got distracted for a moment, and went into a “hover” a few yards off the deck.   Sounds safe enough…but while his helicopter was “stopped” in the air the rest of the carrier was still moving.  The superstructure that sticks up above the flight deck  literally swatted the helicopter out of the sky like a gnat as he hovered there.

That story reminds me so much of life.  There is just no place that you can stop and “hover”.  Life keeps coming at you…even when you aren’t looking. Out of “nowhere” things can come up and literally smash your plans and hopes in an instant.    I hear the stories all the time as a pastor…stories of jobs being lost,  injuries happening, illnesses,  relationships falling apart…nobody plans for these things to happen.  It would be comforting to think that there was a safe place to “hover” to let life just “pass by” for a while…but we can’t.  We have to keep moving forward, praying for guidance,  never giving up…

I’m praying for all of you this week that feel like you have been “hit by an aircraft carrier”.   Let’s pray for each other…help each other…remember that God has not forgotten where we are.

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
