The Next Big Thing…

Take a few moments to read this great thought from Kenna, who did such an AMAZING job with her team organizing, communicating, and fulfilling the BigASKlist project. I could not agree more…on all accounts!  And, don’t forget,  Sarah Jones will be sharing her story that inspired  the entire generosity project tomorrow (9/30) during the service!-  Don

Events remind me of amusement park rides.  Sometimes they are like ferris wheels – they go up and around and come back again – like Relay for Life.  Sometimes they seem really scary like roller coasters when you first start them.  Or sometimes they are low key like the train ride.

But, for me, the Bigask Task was like the sling shot ride on the amusement pier!  Before I knew it I was in that seat looking up at a staggering amount of “asks” – and then, we launched up like a rocket AND  almost as quickly it was over.  Done.  Complete.  Even BEFORE I had time to throw up. J

And just like at Hershey Park – you climb off one ride – super excited, filled with adrenaline and run to get in line for another ride.

So, what’s the next thrill?  What’s actionchurch’s next project?  Sorry.  I don’t know.  I would like to tell you that we have a calendar of giving and serving opportunities lined up through the next year.  I would like to tell you that they are super organized, easy to understand, complete with paperwork and forms and catchy graphics.  Sorry.  It just doesn’t work that way in our church, and here’s why.  Inside our camp we wait for God.  Before we take off on a project – God has to speak to us.  Because, quite simply – if God isn’t in it – we won’t succeed.  No one wants to take on a project that is going to fail.  I could MAKE UP giving opportunities.  I could probably convince someone that we should raise money to install an in-ground pool in my backyard so that Don could do baptisms more often.  That seems like a good thing.  Baptism and all.

Or, we could try to plan something in advance.   That seems smart.  “If you would have told me about the BigAsk List last week, deodorant was on sale at Walmart – 2 for a $1.00 and I had a coupon.”  Or my favorite was the Cold Kids Suck project – my mom was sure that we should wait for the end of the season when coats were on sale……but mom, the kids are cold NOW!

And that’s the bottom line.  We want to be a church that can swing into action WHEN the need arises.  WHEN God speaks to us – we need to be ready to hear his voice.   We can’t move into action before we know what he wants us to do.  Every day we can love God, love people and take action.  God could be speaking to you – personally.  There are opportunities to serve EVERYWHERE.   He wants you and I to do “events” each and every day.  Solo.

As far as events for actionchurch are concerned, I’m waiting.  And listening.  And impatient – just like you.  Because when one event is over – I can’t wait to get back in line for the next one.

Sunday @ actionchurch

This Sunday is the grande finale of the “Inside the Camp” series, and you are not going to want to miss hearing from Sarah Jones, whose Orphanage in Honduras inspired this months “BigASKList” project!  We’ll also talk about WHY and HOW we show generosity as a “camp”, and it turns out to be the same reason Moses commanded the people of Israel to show generosity to “widows, orphans, and foreigners” in his final instructions before they entered the land of promise.

Sunday you will also have a chance to meet Sarah after the service, and enjoy some tunes from our friends Ninth Hour Legacy.  actionkidz has another great week planned in their “What’s in the Bible” teaching series.    As always there will also be loads of yummy Maple Donuts, Muffins, Bagels, Hot Coffee, water, and great actionchurch people to hang with.   It all starts at 10:30 am at Frank Theaters Queensgate (Directions).   Be there!

Sunday @ actionchurch

This Sunday in the “Inside the Camp” series we’ll be taking on one of the most controversial and misunderstood aspects of church:  “Worship”.  Is worship a music genre?  Is it a portion of a church service?  Is it a state of mind…or a body position?  (Are you really “worshipping” if you only raise one hand like a high five, or keep your hands palms up like you are asking for keys?)  Sunday we will cover all of these difficult questions (and more) :-)  from Moses in Deuteronomy to Jesus in the book of John.   You won’t want to miss this week also as we will be celebrating communion, and the AMAZING results of last weeks “BigASKList” finale!

We’ll also have The August Exchange as our musical guests, and actionkidz has another great week planned in their “What’s in the Bible” teaching series.    As always there will also be loads of yummy Maple Donuts, Muffins, Bagels, Hot Coffee, water, and great actionchurch people to hang with.   It all starts at 10:30 am at Frank Theaters Queensgate (Directions).   Be there…and bring someone(s)!

Big ASK wrap-up

I’m truly blown-away by how all of you responded to Sarah’s list of needs for her Honduran Orphans during our “BigASKlist” project that ended on Sunday.  You will NOT want to miss Kenna’s announcement of the final results and totals this Sunday.  I’ve “peeked” at the results…and it’s amazing…

In the mean-time, even though phase one of this project is complete, there are a some things we can all still do.

1.  Pray for Sarah and her father as they transport all the items and supplies in the “bigASKtruck” to Alabama this weekend.

2.  You could check out Sarahs Blog:  I loved reading this week how your acts of faith, in cooperation with generous folks at other churches, served to build her faith that God CAN and WILL provide for her needs.

3.  Be there Sunday (9/30)  as we get to hear from Sarah in person during the service. (and you will have a chance to meet her afterwards)

4. Support Sarah financially.  actionchurch will be providing support on a monthly basis to Sarah and her girls.   Your weekly donations make that (and the support of other local ministries) possible.  Want to give a financial gift directly to Sarah?  Here’s a link to her website.

Thank you all again.  I can’t wait to celebrate with all of you who gave so much…in such a short amount of time!!!

Sunday @ actionchurch

This week in the “Inside the Camp” sermon series we’ll continue exploring Moses’ final instructions for the people of Israel before they entered the land that God had promised them.  In Deuteronomy, Moses laid out a Battle plan, a chain of command, and a way of entering the battle for their homeland that is unique throughout all of history.   Sunday we’ll share how that affects actionchurch’s “Battle Plan”, how our leadership structure works, and even why we often take on “BigASK Projects” where the odds seem to be “never in our favor”.   Don’t miss it if you’d like to know what makes actionchurch so very unusual in the way we “attack” a problem/project!

This Sunday will feature the aggressive rock of Madisyn, and actionkidz has another great week planned in their “What’s in the Bible” teaching series.    As always there will also be loads of yummy Maple Donuts, Muffins, Bagels, Hot Coffee, water, and great actionchurch people to hang with.   It all starts at 10:30 am at Frank Theaters Queensgate (Directions).   Be there!

***DON’T FORGET***

This is the FINAL sunday (9/16)  to turn in items for our Big ASK list!  If you have your items, bring them.  If you bought 14 pairs of size 2 flip-flops and forget to bring them this sunday, you WILL have to drive them to honduras, or find creative uses for them around your home. :-)  We WILL NOT be taking any donations after this week.  We are still collecting monetary donations for the larger items that can not be shipped this Sunday as well, so prayerfully consider writing a “Big ASK check”.   I can not wait to celebrate with you all on 9/23 when we share the final totals!
