Last Sunday, Rita’s gave away free (small) Italian ices to all their customers willing to wait in the long lines. It’s something they do every year on the first day of Spring. I love Rita’s,and I admire their generosity and savvy marketing.
However, I couldn’t help but think of “Rita’s free day” as I read these three statements Jesus made in the Gospels:
2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Matthew 7:2
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. Mathew 6:12
All of God’s gifts are free. Unlike Rita’s you can have any size you want…
The only catch is you have to bring your own container.
(and oh yeah…it has to be the one you use to give to others.)
