Hope Sunday Recap

This Sunday was Hope Sunday at actionchurch.

James 1:27 says “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

I can’t think of a better way to put those words in action than to make sure there are fewer widows… fewer orphans, by caring for those with cancer in our community.   Every name on the Luminaria on the stage today was someones family member or friend that has been affected by cancer.  Thanks so much to all of you who signed up to walk, bought a t-shirt, or donated today to help us as we partner with Relay for Life to help those with cancer in York County.  As Gretchen said today “Ordinary people can do extraordinary things at relay…and actionchurch!”hope-sunday

Highlights:

Thanks to Gretchen and Buddy for sharing their stories today…I love how both of their stories ended in using their personal hardship to help others!

Thanks to Chambered for making Hope Sunday Rock.  Loved the new song…Love working with these Guys.

The New shirts are on sale and I hear they are going Quick…  We will be selling them again next Sunday if you missed them.  Every penny goes to Relay and they look too sweet.

Austin did a great job on the graffics for this week.  It’s almost too bad we only used them this week. We are so blessed to have so many talented people willing to share their art!

actionkidz had a great “mini- relay” in the back and the “kidz” are giving quarters to line the track…

I forgot to mention that our very own ac-allstars will be playing the Relay for Life this year also.  I’m still hearing good stuff about Jerry and Company from last week…yeah I was singing “takin care of business” all week myself  :-)

Thanks as always to the great actionchurch crew…  especially Steve and ?(sorry I suck at names!) for getting all the luminarias lit up.  You guys make it happen every week.

  1. Cancer sucks. Lost a grandfather, a father and my three year old son. Found out my husband had cancer on our honeymoon. I repeat again, cancer sucks. Please post or list or something – can we still sign up to walk, can we still donate, are there still t-shirts, etc.
Do we have a list of the luminary names, can we start a “prayer list”? Or is that kind of too traditional for actionchurch? Don’t sit around and think you can’t do anything because you don’t have any money to donate and you aren’t an oncologist…you CAN do the greatest thing in the world – PRAY.

  2. Yeah, we will be giving everyone an opportunity to be part of our Relay efforts every week up to the event. So sorry to hear about your battles with cancer…from our experiences with cancer as a family we can definitely understand your pain.

Absolutely right about prayer! We can all do something that really matters. We put up the list online last year but missed that opportunity this year. doh!

…and by the way I think actionchurch is a “traditional” church. We’re following the “tradition” of shaking up the world for Jesus that has been set by the early church,to the reformers, to the circuit riders or last century… :-)
