This coming Sunday, November 29th, Farewell Flight will be at actionchurch.

I could go on about how their album, “Sound. Color. Motion.” was literally the soundtrack of my fall & winter last year.

Or that the lyrics are a beautiful mix of melancholy and optimism.

I might even talk to your forever about how the music switches the feel seamlessly between organic and electronic.

But. You should probably just check them out yourself on their Myspace, buy their album on iTunes, and/or

Come out Sunday and bring a friend to see them live at actionchurch!

Tomorrow at actionchurch Photoside Cafe, a “aggressive, acoustic, art rock band” from Greenville, Illinois will be playing during our service. We are really excited that they decided to stop here in York during their current tour. I have seen them on multiple occasions and they are not only some of the most talented musicians that I know, but they put on an awesome show!

They recently put our a full-length album entitled “The Beauty of Innocence Remains” which you can get on iTunes, Amazon, or Rhapsody. When I saw their set list for tomorrow, I was excited, but also disappointed… We are only going to get to hear 4 songs off the album, and there are definitely more than four good songs on this record.

One of my favorite songs off the record is called “Kill Your TV” and while we all know that I have more peaceful leanings, every time I hear this song I want to punch someone (or my TV) in the face. This song didn’t make the cut, so check it out on their myspace/photosidecafe

Lastly, if you want to take a song for yourself, head over to www.photosidecafe.com and sign up for their newsletter. They will give you their song “Black Heart” (which you will hear tomorrow and happens to be my second favorite song on the album) FOR FREE!

Tomorrow at 11AM , come hear Photoside Cafe “aggressively” rock your face off, Don Record sum up why Seven is greater than One, and bring your friends to a “church for people who don’t like church”!

But even though I would love to share my every thought about bands and music, I just want to highlight a lyric that has been running through my head for awhile now. It’s by a local band who you can check out at http://myspace.com/farewellflight

Now that we have shown a complete loss of faith in just how true we never knew we were, what would happen if we were honest with hearts and tried to live for someone other than ourselves?

I was recently introduced to a band/artist by the name of Frightened Rabbit. I really have been enjoying their music and the raw honesty of the lyrics. A specific song, “Heads Roll Off” (Check out the lyrics) jumped out at me. This “jumping” happened mostly because I am a Christian, and when us Christians hear the word “Jesus” our ears perk up.

So I was there doing the dishes and thinking about the lyrics. And there were a lot of good lines, but this one stuck out. What if, like this man wrote, “Jesus was just a spanish boy’s name.” I had one of those moments where a sense of dread washed up my body from the inside out. And after a couple seconds of that fear running around, I had this thought…

Living out Jesus’ ideas & teachings is only going to help my life, not hurt it.

Happy Saturday Morning. Don doesn’t usually write on Saturdays because 1.) he likes to take a break and 2.) nobody ever reads the blog on Saturdays. So mostly because of #2, I am going to write today. (I am still working on moving the author name to the top of blog entries so that when you read you are not guessing who it is the whole time) P.S. This is Josiah

Have you heard of the band Flobots? They have a political protest song called “Handlebars” that became pretty popular in the last year. They are starting something new in the music industry, but it is more than just combining a bunch of different styles to create original music. This is not the typical band, and as actionchurch is not the typical church, maybe we can learn something from them. They have set-up an organization called flotbots(.org) where their mission is:

“To provide a structure through which bands can invest their social and cultural capitol in efforts to increase civic engagement, volunteerism, literacy, and creative expression, and to build a community of music fans around these efforts”

They encourage their fans to start dialogues about politics and social issues. They teach guitar lessons and provide resources to write and record music. This band is NOT just complaining about our government and social issues, but they are actually doing and starting things to make it better. actionchurch needs to continue to not only talk about being a revolution, but “start something” and just be one.
