actionchurch Crew Member: The Big Ask List

He just started coming to actionchurch a few weeks ago and he’s taken over in a BIG way. Meet everyone’s newest best friend, at least until Sunday, The Big Ask List!

What do you do here at actionchurch?

  • I challenge actionchurch to take action by giving them something to take action about: An Orphanage in Honduras!

How did you first get involved?

  • An e-mail brought my needs to the attention of Pastor Don and then he sent me over to Kenna Schaller who’s been a huge help in getting others to feed me!

What is your favorite thing about actionchurch?

  • The people have dropped everything and catered their shopping errands around my needs and won’t stop until I have everything!

What do you do outside of actionchurch?

  • When I’m not all over actionchurch announcements, you can find parts of me posted online by my creator, Sarah.

What are your hobbies?

  • Telling people what to do…I’m bossy, in a nice way. I love giving people opportunities to do something BIG for others. Sometimes, I like to sneak up on people and call them into action right on the spot, in awkward places like the Walmart Home Goods section when I point out some good deals on things I need. Normally, people would find my hobbies pestering, but actionchurch seems to love me!

What is the most memorable moment you have of Pastor Don?

  • He truly made my day when he named donation checks and a truck after me. All the things I need get to be put in a Big Ask Truck and some people even pay for the things I need with Big Ask Checks. It’s an honor to be working with such a creative guy!

How has actionchurch changed you?

  • Like many people at actionchurch, I’ve dramatically lost weight in a short amount of time. I keep shrinking and shrinking. Some people joke about me shrinking into absolutely nothing, like they don’t want me to exist anymore. I’ve also heard rumors that my funeral is this Sunday, September 16th. I guess I better start living life to the fullest and fill all my needs ASAP!

Do you have a favorite scripture that you would like to share with the people of actionchurch?

  • “42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” (Matthew 5:42 NIV)

I’m sensing that you are a bit needy, especially with your deadline on Sunday, what can we do to help?

  • Yes, I am in NEED! You can help by checking me out here. I’m pretty open and up-to-date about what I need by Sunday. Thank you so much for all your help. I can’t wait to tell Sarah all that you’ve done to take care of me! I’ll bring her by on Sunday, September 30, so you can meet her!

Big ASK List Update.

Alright actionchurch, you’ve already done amazing things.  This project to source supplies and funds to outfit an Orphanage in Honduras, has been one part scavenger hunt, one part extreme couponing, one part Extreme Home Makeover and about 99 parts crazy!  Thanks to you, we’ve already delivered several pick-up loads of items to Sarah.   Here’s the plan for the final week…the final push.

 1.  We’ve got one more week  (Sunday 9/16) to gather the items.  If you still have a card for an item or cash donation out-  Bring bring them Sunday.

2.  Here is a list of the only items that have not yet been covered.  If you can get one of these items please contact us at info@actionchurch.com so we can take it off the list and not receive multiples.

Thanks to Kenna and the events team and EVERYONE who has made this seemingly impossible Big ASK Project possible…in an impossibly short length of time!   Just one more week…let’s run through the tape at the finish!

 

Sunday @ actionchurch

In the book of Deuteronomy, just as the people of Israel were poised to enter the Land of Promise that they had been trying to reach for 40 long years, Moses gathered everyone inside the camp for a “talk”.  In those talks he reminded them of where they came from, and how God had cared for them since they left Egypt. Moses also gave them instructions about how God wanted everyone inside the camp to act and interact in the new land.  During the month of September we’ll carry on that tradition at actionchurch.  We’re poised for an exciting new chapter in the life of our church…so this month we’ll talk about where we came from, where we are going, and how we are going to interact “inside the camp” of actionchurch. 

Last week I shared some pretty amazing things I learned from a weed eater, and this week will cause you to look at another item in your found in your tool shed in an entirely different way.   This series is not only a great opportunity for those of us “inside the camp” of actionchurch to learn more about our past and future…but it’s also a great opportunity for people who are brand new to actionchurch (or church as a whole) to have important questions answered…so invite someone this week.

There will be great music from our friends Calling out Closer, and actionkidz has another great week planned in their “What’s in the Bible” teaching series.    As always there will also be loads of yummy Maple Donuts, Muffins, Bagels, Hot Coffee, water, and great actionchurch people to hang with.   It all starts at 10:30 am at Frank Theaters Queensgate (Directions).   Be there!

***DON’T FORGET***

There are just two more Sundays to gather all of our items for the Honduran orphanage on our “Big ASK list”!  (9/9  and 9/16)    If you have your items, bring them.  If you didn’t get a card…get one this week.   Don’t want to shop but want to make a huge impact on the lives of the orphans.  We are still taking monetary donations to purchase the appliances Sarah needs…so please prayerfully consider writing  a “Big ASK check”.

Big Ask List

Alright everyone.   Here’s the list of all the items needed for Sarah Jones Orphanage in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras. (Want to know why we get behind “Big Ask Projects” like this?  Read here)   The time we have to collect these items is VERY short, so this is gonna get all kinds of crazy up in here.  Step one is to begin to collect these items.  Need a little inspiration?   Check out Sarah’s story on her blog here:   Thank you in advance actionchurch…I know that together we can do amazing things for Sarah and her girls!  -Don

***UPDATE***   We will have a drop off point starting this Sunday (9/2) for any of the small items you may have.  We will also have info at  “Big ASK” table about the sponsoring the girls at the orphanage, sign up lists for items, and will be taking donations for the large appliance.  ALL ITEMS have to be collected no later than Sunday 9/16.  We’ve got a little over two weeks to be part of a miracle!   Don’t miss Sunday as Kenna lays out the plan!  In the mean time, please contact us info@actionchurch.com if you have any questions or have any of the larger items on the list.
