This week @ actionchurch

This Sunday at actionchurch we’ll be featuring a band all the way from New York City-Ionia.   It will also be a very special week as far as the sermon goes…something I have been looking forward to for a very long time…and that’s all I’m going to say about that. :-)

Special message to Babies and Toddlers:

Dear babies and toddlers.  First let me say that I know you can’t read yet…so ask mom or dad to read this for you.  I know that you have wanted to attend actionchurch…but you were too young for the amazing stuff going on in actionkidz…and the bands were just too loud for you in the main service.  (and to tell the truth you weren’t to thrilled about the preacher either…he never seemed to talk about bottles, formula, bouncy seats or diapers…your favorite things.)  Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that now you can hang out in an awesome babies and toddler area downstairs at club 19.  Mommy can stay with you and watch the service on a video monitor…or leave you with some super qualified ladies and enjoy the service upstairs while you “get your chill on” without her.  The new area is for ages 0-3 and includes a bouncy house, bouncy seats, playpin, and a soft floor that you can crawl around and drool on.  I wish I could be part of it but I’m too old.  Tell Mom and we’ll see you Sunday!

Oldest trick in the book…

I’m still watching American Idol.  Blame it on the fact that I’m outnumbered by girls in my home…or the fact that one of  the dreamy Jonas Brothers was a guest host last night…whatever.  :-)

Of all the things that have become “formulaic” over the years during Idol try-out shows(the really misguided souls who seem totally unaware they can’t sing, the huge crowds, the crying, the dumb costumes, the obligatory “I’m going to Hollywood” dancing group-hug) one thing has become obvious even to my six year old daughter.   People who talk about”how great they are”- aren’t!   People who are prideful- are humbled by the Judges.   Or as the writer of Proverbs 16:8 said thousands of years before even the first season of Idol (which I’m pretty sure has been on TV for over a thousand years)

18 Pride goes before destruction,
      and haughtiness before a fall.

Whether cameras are rolling or not, a lack of humility leads to humiliation.  It’s the oldest trick in the book…

Dancing Goats

Legend has it that coffee was discovered when Ethiopian shepherds noticed that when their goats consumed the red berries of the coffee tree, they became energized and began to “dance” and frolic around.  I’m not sure what kind of dancers that the goats were, (pop and lock? krumping? freestyle?) but whatever,  it was it was so dramatic that it caused the shepherds to want to try the coffee beans.  If you’re enjoying a great cup of coffee right now like I am…thank an over-caffeinated, “dancing”,  goat!

Here’s the question I keep asking myself.  Am I a “dancing goat”?   (OK, I’ve been told I dance like a clumsy ape…but never a goat.)  But…hang with me here…what is it about being a follower of Jesus that would possibly cause others to say “wow, check out that dancing goat-I’ve got to try some of that”?   What can people who follow Jesus do that could ever make others want to “have some of that”?   I’m pretty sure the answer is NOT dancing around like a caffeine-crazed goat …so what could it be?

What do you think?  Who/what influenced you to want to hear about Jesus? Spill…
