Why people don't like "Christians".

There’s a good post over at Church Marketing Sucks about how people view “Christians”. Here’s the “money quote”

“Today’s young people, ages 16-29, have a more critical view of Christians than previous generations. Specifically, they think Christians are judgmental, anti-homosexual, hypocritical, too political and sheltered. And that’s not just a minority viewpoint–it’s an overwhelming majority who say Christians are …

Anti-homosexual: 91%
Judgmental: 87%
Hypocritical: 85%
Old-fashioned: 78%
Too involved in politics: 75%”

This “problem” is not going to be overcome by “contemporary worship”, coffee bars, or installing video screens in our churches…it can only be overcome when “followers of Jesus” actually start following Jesus by actually putting the “Great Commandments” into action… but that would be just too simple.

35 One Pharisee, who was an expert on the law of Moses, asked Jesus this question to test him:36 “Teacher, which command in the law is the most important?”
Jesus answered, ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and most important command.39 And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ 40 All the law and the writings of the prophets depend on these two commands.”

Mathew 22:35-40
