I’m beginning to understand that true humility isn’t putting yourself down when someone compliments you on something good you might have done- It’s realizing how very insignificant your accomplishments are at their very best.
Imagine complimenting a Farmer for working so hard at producing food, and him replying, “Don’t thank me, It’s “the Lord” out there driving that tractor every day”. That would sound (and be) ridiculous. I think a truly humble farmer would probably say “Thanks!, but remember that for all my work, I can’t make one drop of rain fall or one single plant grow. I just prepare my fields so God can work the miracle of growth that we all take for granted”… I think that’s true humility.
